DAMAGED AND INGROWN NAILS

WHAT ARE INGROWN, DAMAGED NAILS?

Ingrown and damaged nails are a common problem for young as well as older people. Particularly exposed are the big toenails due to improperly trimmed nails, tight footwear, sports activities or even due to the use of certain types of medication (e.g. retinoids). Injured cuticle can lead to infection with microorganisms (bacteria, fungi), inflammation and swelling. Ingrown nails are treated with medical pedicures, but in more serious cases, a medical intervention is required.

SYMPTOMS OF INGROWN AND DAMAGED NAILS?

Ingrown nails (unguis incarnatus) can cause walking difficulties, swollen toes, redness and burning (heating) of the cuticle. Constant irritation and pain, which can be moderate or even severe, are characteristic. Because of the ingrown side part of the nail or other physical damage of the nail and cuticle, it can become inflamed, red and swollen. With sports injuries, they can also bleed. Bacterial infection of the affected area, purulent discharge, and in the worst case, inflammation of the nearest lymph nodes can occur.

PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF INGROWN, DAMAGED NAILS

It is best to prevent the occurrence of these problems, which is achieved by:

  • choosing the right footwear (comfortable, not too narrow footwear),
  • proper nail trimming (straight, not “round”),
  • proper care, especially with products that nourish nails, restore their suppleness and flexibility and moisturize them. Lately products based on active oxygen compounds are recommended, because they help to speed up the regeneration of nails and cuticle, provide them with oxygen, and prevent the formation and spread of infection by antiseptic effect,
  • applying products with panthenolhyaluronic acid and Aloe vera, which nourish and moisturize nails and skin, and ensure greater strengthprotection and faster nail regeneration. Panthenol significantly hydrates the surface, reduces nail brittleness, and improves nail suppleness. It creates a protective layer and acts very regeneratively,
  • applying products in the form of a gel, which is the form of choice due to its texture, as it stays in place longer and acts more intensively.

If the condition of ingrown or physically damaged nails has not been avoided, a medical pedicure is required to disinfect the affected area, care for it and, if necessary, install a special clip that corrects nail growth. In the case of a serious injury or infection, it is necessary to visit a doctor, who may also opt for surgery.

ENIKAM RECOMMENDS:
Nail and cuticle care set

OXILVER® Nail solution in spray – a product with active oxygen, intended for oxygenation, faster regeneration and care of nails and cuticle. It has a mild antiseptic effect and thus prevents the spread of infection. Panthenol provides hydration and suppleness to the nails, which become less brittle.

OXILVER® Skin gel – has an antiseptic effect and is a necessary supplement in case of ingrown or damaged nails. Active oxygen, released in the form of numerous bubbles, cleans the infected, damaged and swollen surface. Thus, it accelerates oxygenation, surface regeneration and helps reduce swelling. Aloe vera and hyaluronic acid ensure hydration, softening and faster recovery of the affected area.

How to use:
Apply OXILVER® Nail solution 3-4 times a day. For a faster and more intense effect, apply OXILVER® Skin gel each time. The solution does not need to be rinsed off, just wait for the nails to dry.
